5 Things About Nanette

1

When she isn’t talking about the capital markets, she is singing and playing guitar with New England Conservatory’s Continuing Ed jazz ensemble and performing for friends and family. She has eclectic tastes ranging from Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and McCoy Tyner to Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, and Yebba. She just bought a sonic blue Fender Stratocaster and is trying to hold the guitar lower than her chin as she hears that holding an electric guitar low looks a lot cooler! (Fun fact: Nanette sang in and appeared in the 1980 movie Fame!)

2

She's a board member of The Brookline Community Mental Health Center and is on the Finance Committee that helps to fund the Center’s support of mental-health services at a local and national level. Mental-health issues have exploded since the pandemic, especially among kids. She is passionate about getting affordable mental-health services to those who need them.

3

Food is always top of mind for Nanette. She loves to cook, eat, and entertain. Her favorite crowd-pleasers are a layered tuna tartare-avocado app or a bubbling hot, cheesy spinach-artichoke dip.

4

She loves to spend time with her husband of 27 years and their boys, ages 21 and 24. Exercise and meditation are also core to daily life. Tennis is her first love followed by cycling, weight-lifting, and anything cardio! Meditation is more aspirational, but she believes following some of the Eastern spiritual practices can bring greater inner peace and happiness.

5

People often say creativity and analytical skills use different halves of the brain. Not for Nanette. Her ability and desire to connect with people through music or by helping financial professionals understand the interaction between the economy and markets, and how best to position client portfolios is what makes her tick.

Nanette's Insights

US exceptionalism will remain a focus for markets, but the big question is how long it can last.
Despite warning signs, the US economy has remained strong, but the US election and geopolitical risks remain top-of-mind.
Amid slowing growth and a sharp global sell-off, allocators may want to pay attention to these three factors.
Politics are likely front and center in investors’ minds as every week brings new headlines with new implications . Nanette Abuhoff Jacobson returns to the podcast to discuss a Republican vs. Democrat victory; what needs to happen for market performance to broaden out beyond large caps; and whether Fed rate cuts can revive the bond market.
Central-bank policy and geopolitical risks remain top-of-mind in the second half of the year.
